Because they have to flush the system and replace the accumulator, and orifice to get the warranty on the compressor.
Agree with #1. When a Ford compressor quits, The parallel evaporator and lines need to be flushed, all line o-rings need to be replaced, the condenser and all fore mentioned parts need to be replaced, along with applying deep system vacuum to remove moisture, and recharging the system with oil and new refrigerant. Essentially a complete system rebuild. $800.00 is really inexpensive as it should be more like $1,500 for a proper job.
Thats the problem to find someplace that will do it RIGHT! Most half ass and stick it to ya! what is warranty 1 yr.?
That's affirmative, if they are going to charge that much the customer should get a top notch repair job! I would guess the warranty for the compressor would be one year depending on brand. Personally I like Delphi brand. I purchased a used Delphi ac compressor from Ebay.com with low mile for around $100.00 for our Ford Fusion a couple years ago and it is still working great. The original compressor locked up at 55,000 miles so I bought a Haynes automotive ac and heating system repair manual, and started learning how to repair the AC system myself. Ordered and install all the components, then took it to a mechanic to vacuum and recharge the system for $230.00 and a combined total of around $600.00. The repair estimate I had received was "$1,500.00 minimum" If you check your maintenance schedule in the owners manual, it will say that the ac system needs to be serviced every three years, but who wants to shell out $500.00 every three years just for the ac system. Kinda crazy.
k looks like paying price if I want air! Thanks for time.
