Can i put a shoter serpatine belt on my car if i dont want to replace the ac compressor

I have a 2004 ford expedition my AC compressor is bad and I can't afford to get it fix right now can I buy a shorter serpatine belt and put it on and by pass the ac compressor was wondering would that work
