Im not getting any fire to my coil to the spark plugs on90 toyota v6 3.0

I washed my motor while running it died .the coil igniter was damp we tried it it cranked. Then the next time I drove it it spit and sputtered and back fired I changed the distributed coil and igniter what else could be the problem it will turn over but will not start.
