What is your question?
I bought a 2001 Ford Expedition 150000 miles from a guy. His was threading the spark plug hole but drilled too far and it went straight through the piston. So i bought a new piston with rings. My question is do I have to hone out the cylinder when replacing the rings? The factory cross hatching is visible?
What would happen if I just put new piston rings? The factory cross hatching is still there. I don't have any honing tools.
I can’t really say for sure - I’ve always at least de-glazed the cylinder walls when installing new rings on any given cylinder .. Might get by without doing so but that may also impair the rings from seating properly - *possibly* resulting smoking and oil consumption .. Again - I can not say for sure! I’m old school and that’s just the way I’ve always done it over the years.
