I am about to buy a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. It is in very good condition but only has one problem. The gas meter does not work, how much will it cost me to get it fixed?

most of the time when that happens,it's the sender that is bad(float arm/switch)which is part of the fuel pump module assembly inside the fuel tank.the whole unit would need to be replaced to correct this,if that is the problem(around $225.00 for just the module assembly).in some cases(but rare)the gauge itself flakes out.do you have a digital odometer?
