Another thought is IF the tank has been sealed while sitting - you might be able to add some fresh hight test gas and get the engine running - it’s a good possibility.
Good luck with it!
just replaced fuel pump dont want to run bad gas through the new pump. Would like tank removed and flushed, had someone hook shop vac hose into tank and nasty stuff came out. Gauge says full tank and I had put full tank in about 10 mos ago. However, shop vac was not able to suck hardly anything out of the tank. Could the gas have disinigrated? The car does start and drove from meineke home but dont want to drive in condition til tank is flushed
Tank being full is a good thing - less moisture will have accumulated in the tank.
Pump assembly can be removed - then old gas can be siphoned from tank using the PROPER procedure and equipment.
Absolutely no need to remove and FLUSH the fuel tank!
DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AROUND THE TANK FOR FUEL REMOVAL!
This most certainly includes a shop vac - which presents a fire / explosion hazard!
Sparks from electric motors can easily ignite gasoline .. EVEN OLD GASOLINE is still extremely flammable..
Just be careful.
You’ve already driven this vehicle so here is a couple of of things you should consider:
Many antique vehicles, or vehicles simply not driven frequently, sit around for much longer than 10 months with same gas in tank without incident upon returning these vehicles to service.
What I suggest is adding some SeaFoam fuel treatment plus some octane booster to the existing fuel and driving the vehicle.
Adding fresh high octane gas frequently, when possible, will also help..
Otherwise you might just be wasting money for no real reason - other than a little paranoia.
I have had quite a bit of experience with this during ‘MANY’ years of being in the automobile repair business - - now retired.
Google > Seafoam fuel treatment .. This treatment / additive will also help the ‘entire’ fuel system as well as cleaning carbon deposits from the valves and pistons.
(Technically it’s called - SeaFoam Motor Treatment)
thank you so much will try this. The check engine light is on and can not smog vehicle. The mechanic that replaced fuel pump said the gas is bad and why the check engine light did not go out. So I will do as you say and hopefully the check engine light will go out when all bad gas is gone. I have done so much to vehicle and still can not get the check engine light to go out; Mass air flow sensor, co2 sensors ,replaced air conditioning hoses, manifold gasket, fuel pump etc. The mechanic said the fuel pump was reason and told him to do what he had to get light out did not want back til done and got 2 miles down road and light was back on. if I can not get light out I need to sell vehicle I don't wan to put any more into it already at $1400 with purchase of car at $650. only has 132,000 miles for a 2000 vehicle
Did this “mechanic” do a full scan test on the vehicle - you may not know that but it is imperative to do so - this testing is not only for trouble code gathering but to observe other important data that should lead to a diagnostic / repair solution.. These are pretty reliable vehicles - I know it’s difficult to keep spending on it but you have got to be close to the actual repair..
The problem with online auto repair advice is I simply can not get my hands on the vehicle to do the necessary testing myself !
Good luck with it!
Did as said .update engine light is out and new gas is in. Need to drive and have smog redone was rejected. car is running good, but had to get idle control valve. May need blower motor fan in future, a/c has been recharge thanks so much for help and advice five stars
