i think the wires connected to my battery have a short in it.

my car wouldn’t start so i wedge the terminal connected to the battery & it started but shut off once i moved it. i want to know what the cables wires connected to the battery are called ? & how much it cost to fix it . the car was completely dead nothing turned on
