Safety switch

The brake interlock system is not functioning properly. There will be a little hole to stick a screw driver into, carefully insert it into it to release the handle to shift. You don't need to push hard. You will feel it pushing back since there's a spring in it. The problem could be many things and it should be properly diagnosed by an auto mechanic.
Just to answer your question.... Neutral safety switch is located on transmission under the shift linkage lever.
I wiggled sjifter to make it start then the next day it would not start and nothing worked ,turnthe key to start and it does noyhing no crank just a small click and silence
Pushrod is right. Neutral safety switch not aligned properly. Try shifting through the gears with your foot on the break and cranking the car in each gear.
