In a 2004 ford escape Is there a oil sensor that will kill the motor if oil is low

Escape had been missing and died driving down the road and made clanking noise and won't start back up just making a clicking noise still has lights and radio but no power steering or power brakes and smells burnt

What makes this problem better or worse?

happened with no warning or warning lights
