2003 Ford Escape will not start.

Hello, I have a weird issue. Sporadically, my car does nothing when I turn the key. The LED displays (mileage, etc), will even go out. The power is not restored until I open and close the door. Then it will crank as usual. I noticed it first when It was raining and it happened again just today, but it goes weeks/months rain or shine with no indecent. Can anyone tell me a good way to get this fixed. I went to the dealer and they said to keep driving it until it becomes more constant/consistent. Please help.
