What is your question?
Sounds like the exhaust is not reaching the exhaust manifold, and going back into the intake, and won't move forward or reverse without stalling. When engine is warm, there is a heavy smell of fuel.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Nothing
How long has your 2001 Ford Escape had this problem?

Reason for spraying carb cleaner? ... Not really important. *CORRECTLY* re-install - repair or replace that big rubber accordion shaped air tube from the air cleaner to the throttle body. You’ve messed it up somehow.
Cannot be ANY leaks in that big rubber air tube! Otherwise engine will not idle.
I've done it twice with no problems, but trying to spray, and keep the idle from dropping to stall was the issue. Idle dropped too low, then stalled and backfired! Never the same after that. Now having to tap pedal to keep running, and won't move before stalling!
You lifted the air cleaner cover up to spray carb cleaner into throttle body - in the process if you have damaged that RUBBER tube then the engine will not idle. Otherwise you’ll need *hands-on* assistance from qualified personnel for proper diagnosis. Good luck!
