I had a similar problem. My e150 would crank (motor turn over) but would not start. After couple shops, ford dealer, and then an auto electric shop, was told some of the grounds were bad. after repairs, It went about a year with no problem. if the service engine light did not come on when the ignition was turned to on, the motor would turn over, but never start. if service engine light comes on when switched on, it starts every time. If no start, disconnect battery, wait several minutes, reconnect, an it would start. A new problem just developed, only get a click when try to start, then retry and engine starts on second try.
