When I look underneath my steering, i can see the plastic casing around the metal cable broken off revealing the shiny metal cable inside. I am guessing this is where the problem is
When the shifter is moved is there any resistance while moving it. I don't remember the price on that one, but I do work on many police cars and had no cable issues except at the transmission.
No resistance whatsoever! Once you move it off park, it slides feeely between REVERSE and 1; sometime without even having to pull it in for the shift to happen (by the way, thanks a bunch for taking the time to help me)
