96 ford contour check engine codes po117 and po118 are showing

is that why the car is sputtering when acclerating from stop. and why would the temp gauge go all the way to hott when starting the car even when the motor is cool and when coolant temp sensor is plugged in. could the pcm be bad. i have been led towards that being the problem cuz even when the ac is turned on the fan dont start like its suppose to also

you coudl still have a cooling system issue. the temp sensor for the guage is separate from the coolant sensor. the sputtering could be from a missfire in one of the cylinders or possibly water getting into the combustion chamber . get it checked before there is some major damage. Roy

i have changed the head gasket and have done a compression test on each cylinder and they are all good on compression specifications. my friend is a mechanic and has helped me do all this we have just been out of luck figuring out this fan issue. i have checked oil for antifreeze there is none and i have pressure tested the cooling system and its fine. i am beginning to think its something electrical causing the fan not to work.
