car stalls at 1/4 quarter tank of gas

when my car get down to 1/4 tank of gas it stalls. It will start right back up but it is very dangerous when you on the road. I have been told to do so many different things to it. I asked a mechanic about it today and he told me if it starts back up dont worry!!!!!! how crazy is that? thank you for your time jag
