Car won't start after it runs for about 10 minutes

Yes it cranks buy doesn't start.

While it will not start, test for ignition spark from spark plug wire.. You'll need a helper to crank the engine for you... That'll narrow it down a BUNCH!

Do I use something metal inside the spark plug wire while touch a ground to see a spark?

That'll work! .. Don't actually 'touch' a ground ... Just hold the metal insert about 1/4 inch from a metal ground somewhere on the engine and while engine is cranking... Should see spark! .. # 2 Phillips screwdriver works well for the test.. Make sure the handle is in good shape so you don't get a jolt.. It really won't hurt you but you'll get a surprise. .. You will also know it's getting spark though!

Since the alternator is close that should be a good ground?

Yep, any metal part of the engine will do.

No spark should be more than likely the distributor?

Pick-up plate inside the distributor is suspect... Good luck !
