i found part of my problem. theres 2 vacuum lines by the distributor. i believe it is the timing advance. well. the person who had the truck before me decided to plug both lines with one bolt. so i have 2 vacuume lines coming off of there in which i have no clue to where they go. and i couldnt find a book anywhere in town and the dealership couldnt help either.no help finding it on the interweb either. would anybody have a diagram of all the vacuum lines on this vehicle. all of them have been messed with. some are plugged off the intake. it's a nightmare. thanks for the help

Look under the hood!... Supposed to be a vacuum hose routing diagram there!!... Under side of the hood.... Raise hood... Look UP! ... No 'vacuum' timing advance on this engine/distributor!
Your statement says '2 vacuum lines BY the distributor' NOT on the distributor , am I understanding that correctly? I looked up the distributor for '99 ram1500 2WD p-up w/5.2L and it shows a distributor with a 'hall-effect' pick-up -all electronic , no vacuum advance on the housing. Are you by any chance referring to a vacuum port coming out of the intake manifold? Is the engine throttle body or carburetor? Maybe it's not the original engine?........NOT a 'mechanic' for 36 years...just happen to work on cars for a living.....just for the record!
i believe it is coming out of the intake.and it is a 4 wheel drive. there is a line coming up from around the back of the engine to that thing.maybe a vacuum advance.? not for sure.but tomorrow i will know where it is coming from.but as far as why they were plugged baffles me. there was a line going into the firewall that was broken off and just left.that was fixed today. is it possible it is called a egr valve?? thats all i can find without sending a picture of it to somebody???

it's the egr valve by the distributor and it has 2 lines coming out of it. and yes the truck does run.from what i have seen so far.somebody broke every line on there,and tried to plug half of them.and the others were left to suck air.pretty bad. i picked up a book yesterday from the library and it shows the egr valve going to a egr control valve. would that be why theres a 2nd line by the bottom of it. there are 2 lines coming from the egr and i have to figure out if the 2 lines connect together,or if it is split off to other lines

there is a module back there and has 2 lines coming off of it. one next to it.and one going into it it is located to the left of the distributor cap also the diagram is there, but these lines are not on the diagram. please explain what the part is called. i have no idea. and i have been a mechanic for 25 years

Not really unless you could download it then put it in your profile picture here. Maybe YouTube. I ain't that computer savvy!... Don't really want to be either at this stage of the game!!.. Be nice if a buddy pulled up in one like this one so you could look at it!... Or he'll,a stranger for that mater! Next time you see a RAM bout the same, make them raise the hood and take a look!
