Hello, no, a camshaft position sensor replacement does not require removal of any timing components. This is all a guess, though, and what is clear is that you really need the assistance of a professional technician who can get to the bottom of your concerns with hands on inspections. Your timeline of symptoms is confusing; was there a problem before the components were replaced, or only after?
Engine stall during overheating has no definitive answer - *hands-on* evaluation by qualified personnel is required - - possible engine damage. Good luck!
