Hello, sounds like a faulty key - or a faulty cylinder. Try a different key. Have a key made from the original key code -- do not duplicate the one you have. Try that. However, sounds like you might have a steering wheel up against its lock too? Or a steering lock / column issue? Hands on inspection is needed.
Grasp steering wheel and forcefully rock it back and forth while turning key.
Canted or off center steering wheel position puts pressure on the key lock cylinder making it difficult to rotate - moving the steering just a bit will relieve this pressure and allow key to turn.
With key in switch - Using a rubber mallet or similar tool (wooden block) - strike the key squarely in the center a couple of times - this will release the ‘stuck tumbler’ and allow key to turn. Spraying WD-40 into lock cylinder before hand may help.. Repeat procedures until key can be turned. This method sounds a bit primitive HOWEVER it actually works quite well.. In fact I have good luck doing this and then lubricating the lock cylinder well - customers had no more problems.
Alternatively you can always contact local locksmith for assistance.. Good luck!
I was able to get the ignition to turn by inserting the key and tapping with a rubber mallet ..... however, once the key is removed it will not turn and process has to be repeated by popping the end of the key with my hand ....... will most likely have to replace the cylindar tumbler. Thnx
Yeah - it’s not 100% but a handy trick to know - IF you need to use the vehicle.. Many times that is a viable ‘repair’ .. I assume you tried lubrication.. Maybe try another key now just for the heck of it .. In any event you know what the problem is. I wish more folks would follow up on their answered questions - that’s what a forum is actually all about. Thank you and good luck with it!
Have tried 2 seperate keys and also tried to release tention on steering wheel pin ,,,, Key still will not turn.
