I bought a compressor joint fitting 1/4 and still was to big the sleeve insert didn't even fit in the line.I tried w/o the insert don't work.why did I vet the wrong size fitting and if so what size should I get.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Tried a few different times with rubber and clamps and tbatbdidnt work either
How long has your 1998 Dodge Durango had this problem?

MOST of the brake lines are 3/16 outside diameter .. Highly recommend replacement of the entire length of the failed brake line - instead of trying to patch the old one! When the brakes are applied - brake fluid is under extremely high pressure .. Inferior brake lines, brake line installation or repair can result in loss of proper braking and a dangerous situation - for the operator - and others.
