Ill go to start it,it starts right up.ill drive it say 20 mins shut it off , go to restart nothing.but if I turn the key to start then wait few seconds do thatsay15to30 times. Then all of sudden it will start.it may not happen for a day or so then it does it ever other I go to start it.

Hi Rogjr, There are many possibilities here, the Dakota needs to be inspected by a technician who can attach test equipment so when it does not start he/she can tell if it is fuel or ignition, once that is determined it can be diagnosed and repaired Dan CarSmart Auto Service
If I was to GUESS , I would go with a crank sensor , before cam sensor , but that's just my guess. Your guess would be to first determine , if when it won't start , if it's missing fuel or spark and then , depending on the cost of parts vs. diagnostic fees , which is more practical for your circumstances. An intermittent problem , that is hard to duplicate for a shop ............hard call , but I'll stick with my first guess. Good luck!
