What is your question?
The brake and ABS warning lights are coming on. I was told that I had a leaking axel seal . How do I replace this ? Should bearing also be replaced ?

Who did the diagnosis and how did they explain it is related to the ABS light? You may need the repair but it may not fix the concern if it is unrelated. Let us know! Greg
If the axle seal is leaking the rear differential cover will need to be removed before the axle can be removed to access the seal. If this has rear disc brakes it will require removing the rear brake caliper and mounting hardware. Good luck
First off, an axle seal seal will not trigger the Anti-lok Brake (ABS) lamps, but to answer you question, perform the following steps 1.Raise and support vehicle. Ensure that the transmission is in neutral. 2.Remove wheel and tire assembly. 3.Remove brake drum. 4.Clean all foreign material from housing cover area. 5.Loosen housing cover bolts. Drain lubricant from the housing and axle shaft tubes. Remove housing cover. 6.Rotate differential case so that pinion mate gear shaft lock screw is accessible. Remove lock screw and pinion mate gear shaft from differential case Mate Shaft Lock Screw 7.Push axle shaft inward and remove axle shaft C - clip lock from the axle shaft Axle Shaft C - Clip Lock 8.Remove axle shaft. Use care to prevent damage to axle shaft bearing and seal, which will remain in axle shaft tube. 9.Inspect axle shaft seal for leakage or damage. Remove axle shaft seal from the end of the axle tube with a small pry bar 10.Inspect roller bearing contact surface on axle shaft for signs of brinelling, galling and pitting. If any of these conditions exist, the axle shaft and/or bearing and seal must be replaced.
Hi Greg, I actually wrote your business for an estimate. The diagnosis was made by Les Schwab during a brake inspection. They said grease and oil from the axel was coating my rear brake and the speed sensor causing the warning lights.
Thanks! I am not at the shop today. If they havent contacted you yet the best thing to do is call Kyle at 253-833-8161 and he will be happy to help!
