there are no code readings can drive in reverse when in 1st. gear wants to stall out will idle and not die has a standard shift dealer does not know answer service light not on

Does it stall out slow or right away? Will it idle in neutral? You say it's a standard transmission and not an automatic. If standard, it should stall out in rev the same as 1st. Other things that can cause stalling is you Idle control valve. Again, if it's a standard, the clutch does not care if your in idle or 1st. Now if you stall when trying to move forward and it stalls that way, you maybe in two gears at one time. I would go to an ATRA shop and have them check it out. Something does not make sense.
MY FIRST THOUGHTS GIVEN THE SYMPTOMS YOU HAVE IS TO HAVE SOMEONE CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT TYPE OF LUBRICANT IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT IT IS NOT OVER FILLED. TO HEAVY OR TO MUCH FLUID CAN CAUSE EXTRA LOAD ON A LOW HP. ENGINE AT LOW RPM LEVEL. A LARGER SECTION OF GEARS ARE ENGAGED IN FORWARD GEAR SELECTIONS BUT ONLY ONE IN REVERSE. GOOD LUCK.
