96 dodge 1500. when I turn on a/c the compressor engages and stays engaged

96 dodge 1500. A/c engages when turned on and stays engaged until it's turned off. It doesn't blow cold and the system is charged. If I unplug the low pressure switch the compressor disengages.

What makes this problem better or worse?

it just started. last summer I had a bad o ring at a valve and i had it replaced and had it vacumme tested and a complete recharge.
