Is it common for brakes to squeak?

I wouldn’t say it’s common but it does happen - less on the newer vehicles - - some years ago it was certainly more commonplace. Brakes should be inspected by qualified personnel to confirm proper installation - function and remaining thickness of the braking material. It is possible brake pad or braking material is wrong compound application - improper installation - worn brake pad material.
