Won't go into drive but goes into reverse

What is your question?

Bad grinding noise when car is in reverse but not in drive or low. Engine won't go over 2000 rpm in drive. Made a slight noise until it just quit going into drive.

What makes this problem better or worse?

Yesterday it went into drive for about 30 ft. but it was very cold. It hadn't been started in 2 days.
