gas cap indicator will not go off even with new cap

We have a 2006 Pacifica. If you have the problem we had, the fuel pumps (yes there are two of them) have fittings at the top of them for vents. They connect to each other and are made of not so durable plastic. The original ones broke after 35,000 miles. Soon after the warranty wore off the new pumps, they broke again. We took it back to the dealer, they replaced them again. I called Chrysler and they refunded my money. After those newest ones broke, again after that warranty was up, the dealer replaced them for the third time. This time I got on the dealer to figure out a way to fix it for good. They finally got a "thinking mechanic" to replace the hose so it was a little bit longer so it wouldn't pull against the fittings... duh. I called Chrysler again and they refunded most of the money spent on the third set of pumps. Next time (hopefully there won't be a next time) I'm pulling the tank myself, and will epoxy the fittings in place.

I realize this seems unlikely but I was having the very same issue with my 06 Pacifica (among several others) and was caused by a bad alternator! Just had it replaced and issue is gone! Good-Luck

I know this is real late, but maybe I could help someone. I have a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica. I have 189000 miles on it. Recently the check engine light and the gascap indication was on. I replaced the gas cap with one from the Chrysler dealership, no luck. Went to autozone, had them do the diagnostic test. The results was a slow leak in the fuel pump. Long story short, I got a tune-up, and the check engine light and the gascap indication went off. So I suggest you try this first.
