A condition like you described should have illuminated your "check engine" lamp. Possible causes are defective oxygen sensors, leaking injectors, defective MAP sensor, Crank / Camshaft timing off due to worn or slipped belt, defective fuel pressure regulator, worn or defective sparkplugs etc. Have a reputable shop check and diagoise the vehicle as continued operation in this condition will destroy your catalytic Converters...more unnecessary expense.
