smelled burning after shutting car off it wont start finally got it started but had to rev the engine to keep it running

I was lost looking for a address. I noticed a burning smell coming from my car, so I pulled into a safe location and shut the car off. When I went to start it it would not start. I kept trying each time pushing down on the gas petal. after the forth try it started but I had to rev the engine to keep it running. I safely made it home and the car started right up

What makes this problem better or worse?

not sure this was the first time it happened I just had my battery replaced on friday
