Normally by the time excessive play is present - there should already be some noise associated with a failing hub bearing assembly.. Obviously we can’t put hands on the vehicle for evaluation but I recommend having independent auto repair facility check torque on the front axle retaining nuts.. - I am assuming this is a 4x4 equipped vehicle.. A ‘roaring noise’ that changes with vehicle speed or slightly turning the steering wheel at road speed is the first sign of hub bearing failure.. I’d get another *hands-on* opinion from another auto repair facility..
Hello, excessive play from wheel bearings will not always cause a noise concern. But, it is a real problem -- as long as you have confirmed it is from the hub and bearing area. It is always smart to get competitive estimates for repair if you do not feel comfortable with the quote. ‘IF’ there is noticeable play in the *hub bearing* assembly - there should be noise present while operating the vehicle as well .. The inner bearings are no longer properly aligned.!
