The compressor will stay engaged as long as needed for the selected temperature - this may be normal operation. Turn temperature settings on low - select high fan speed - compressor should stay engaged for a longer period of time. IF a/c is cooling effectively - no worries.

Compressor ‘ON’ time will vary with ambient temperatures as well - the hotter it is outside - the longer it will need to stay ‘ON’ ..
