97 tahoe when putting it into gear it stops at over drive will not go n d3 d2 d1

Had a Chevy pickup with a small gravel lodged in just the right spot which resulted in the exact same problem .. IF it happened once - it can surely happen again .. It wasn't real obvious - had a helper in truck, while it was on the lift, shifting gears for me - I finally saw the problem .. Look closley. Be sure to set parking brakes!
