Why does it just make a click noise when i try to start it?

When I go to start my truck it doesn't start. When I turn the key, it just makes a single click noise, everytime i turn the key. I have to turn the key between 10-20 times before it finally fires up. It does it randomly so there really is not a certain time it happens. Maybe happens 1-3 times a week. But it is happening more frequently.
