Here’s the only logical scenario I can come up with here online: Oil cooling coil was indeed leaking into old radiator - you just didn’t find the evidence of a rupture. You are seeing ‘residual oil’ that is from previous cooling system oil contamination.. Only other source that comes to mind is cracked cylinder head - but that is far fetched. Good luck!
Additionally - after vehicle has been driven and parked - residual cooling system pressure should force coolant back into oil so you should find ‘some’ coolant in oil as well.. Oil is down a qt after changing - that much additional fluid being pushed into radiator would certainly cause an overflow problem.. Oil is difficult to remove from engine block cooling system passages. - so it is quite possible this is left over from the previous failure. Continue vehicle operation while monitoring temperature gauge and frequently checking fluid levels - see what develops.
One more thing that should be mentioned : On a pushrod engine - there is no oil under pressure passing through the cylinder heads themselves - it is feed through the pushrods ... Think about it - it’ll come to ya. (How could oil be forced into the radiator?) Bottom line is I do not think there is an actual engine problem! Happy motoring!
