What is your question?
My car has been standing for about a year and a half. Battery terminals were corroded. I put jumpers on to the terminals and the positve lead from the solinoid to the alternator smoked. Disconnected it and reconnected the jumpers. This time all lights came on including horn and cooling fans. Any ideas as to what is common to all these to cause this problem.
Hi Pushrod. I can say without a doubt that the battery cables were hooked up correctly. I am interested in what you mean by It has most likely shorted ignition circuit to battery power. Could you elaborate on that? I have looked at the electrical wiring drawings and the only common device I can see to cause all these issues is the BCM the only anomaly is why the wire from the solenoid to the alternator smoked. Firstly it should have had a fuse but aside from that I can't see what would cause a short through the alternator. Let me know what you think. Thanks for the reply. RobC0002
The lights and horn I can understand as it is possibly the security system, however the cooling fans and smoking wire is another matter! .. Disconnect the alternator wire and 'momentarily' attach jumpers to see IF sparks fly.. IF so, start unhooking possible sources of a short circuit trying the jumper each time .. Smoking wire is the result of a dead short (SOMEWHERE)... Without a wiring schematic in front of me, it's 'very' difficult to say... With a schematic in front of me, then it's just difficult to say! .. Look for a short in the wire from solenoid to alternator etc..for a possible 'shorted' battery power feed to ignition switch .. Possibly even 'rodent' damaged wiring .. There really isn't a repair protocol for this type issue, just hands-on testing .. Good luck with it!
