When you mean "stops running" you mean doesn't blow cold. I would unplug the a/c compressor so it doesn't engage anymore. Yes you'll have heat without the a/c working.

How do I unplug the AC compressor and if I go to a shop to have it unplugged, will it cost a lot of money?

You should be able to run the heat without the AC, they are not tied together by anything, but they use the same blower.
