why does the fuel pump runs for 2 seconds and shuts off. Engine will not start

removed the fuel pump-- well over 1/2 tank of gas. Thinking maybe fuel filter--car just died after going about 3 miles. But according to my meter, Im only getting about 6 volts out of the fuel pump relay. Im going to attach the wires to the pump and try it with the engine cranking-- with the pump out of the tank

Just curious how you made out, been away for a while... Did the pump run while you were testing it?

the pump ran while the engine was cranking. Haven't had time to take the line off the fuel filter. I got about 3 miles down the road after work when the car just died. ! am so I didn't check for pressure at the fuel rail--just towed it home. 40 mile one-way trip to work so I want to be sure the problem is fixed before getting on the road again. Fixed without a big repair bill if you know what I mean. thanks for the help

Yep I do know what ya mean!!... You do have good hot ignition spark, right..?

going to try that after trying the pump with the engine actually cranking to see how long it runs. Also starting to wonder about a possible loose connection to the pump?
