Ticking noise

I have a 1997 Chevy Lumina with the same engine it has ticked for several years and I have been told it is fairly common for the 3.1 engine. By the way the Lumina has 330,000 miles on it. The manifold gasket was going but it still runs like a champ! I just bought a 1998 Malibu, it ticks too
