what removing tool is used for pushing the halfshaft splines back out of the front hub/bearing assembly? thank you
What is your question?
I need to replace a front wheel hub/bearing assembly, which need to be disconnected from the drive axle shaft and its spline.
what removing tool I need to use? or need to be pressed of by an auto-shop?
thanks
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1995 Chevrolet Lumina. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
Put retaining nut back on axle and tighten until FLUSH with end of axle threads - use hammer to encourage axle to move - some PB B’laster sprayed onto axle splines will help.
Normally the axle isn’t difficult to remove from hub .. Placing retaining nut onto axle as described will prevent thread damage when striking with hammer.
I am not good at HAMMER!, LOL.
I see that there are tools called" Jaw attachment puller&installer"!
Can I use this tool for removing the bearing hub, and for installing the new one onto the drive axle? is it stable enough for the bearing hub?
Thanks
A puller is simply not necessary to complete this task!
Below is a link to a very good YouTube video showing it being done.

Hi Pushrod,
Thanks! I checked youtube, for my chevy lumina the hammer can not be used due to the big knuckle piece. But there is a slide hammer and flange I can loan from an auto store. I hope these tools will work.
Also, for installation is it difficult to slide a new wheel hub/bearing assembly into
the driveaxle and the knuckle? will I need to use a mullet to hammer it in?
Please let me know soon.
thank you very much,
