What is the purpose of exhaust springs on 3.1L V6 engine, chevy lumina 1995?

There are two springs with studs holding the exhaust pipe to the rear exhaust manifold. The studs are inside the springs. What are the purpose of these springs? can I use any springs for replacement? thank you for your reply.
