When I turn the key the starter turns over and continues to turn over after I release the key. The car will not crank.

Actually it's always been that way... Before this 'no start' problem, as soon as the engine started the starter stopped engaging... Now that it has a no start condition, you are noticing the starter engaging longer to try to start the engine... The no start is the actual problem and will require testing to find out why it will not start!!
