My ac compressed make noise when it kick on and off

What do mean defrost on

The setting that blows air up onto the windshield...........that setting automatically turns the A/C on. IF it is (or you suspect it is) cycling to frequently , have system pressure checked professionally , with gauges to verify it's not low on R-134(refrigerant).
