Was told I need a new front wheel bearing on my car. It shakes like mad at 40mph

as if it will fall apart, very frightening. Does anyone know the approximate cost to fix this? (I live in Michigan btw) I just had to replace the alternator yesterday. Went to O' Reilly's to have them perform the test. He told me it was the battery not receiving enough juice from the alternator. Well, I started it today and it didn't want to start at first. It eventually did. However, to me it seems as if it was the battery all along, wasn't it? I guess I'm just looking for answers. Very frustrated at this point considering I lost a days pay only to have my car still not running right! Grrr! :P

the battery must have a full charge on it before the alternator can be tested while still mounted on the vehicle or it will give a bad or false reading.if the battery has been replaced before,then there should be a little round sticker on the side of it with the date on it,like 03/12.that would be March of 2012.that's when it was built.or stickers on the top with the month and year stamped out.most batteries now days last 4-5 years.for the wheel bearing,you should take it to a local,trusted,independent repair shop for other opinions and price to fix it.

One more question though...what if I'm driving and the wheel bearing goes...will I crash? (most likely a stupid question, but it scares the crap out of me)
if it's shaking,vibrating,roaring,has a lot of play in it,then i would get it to a shop now.how long have you been driving it doing this?
who told you it's the wheel bearing?the wheel bearing hub/assembly is around $200.00 plus for a good one,that's if you buy it yourself.if a shop buys it,they will most likely mark the price up on it,how much i don't know, plus labor.maybe $300.00-$500.00 total?for the part and labor?
I actually just found a guy do to it for $366 installed, and he is a reputable owner! A friend of a friend!
I had an alternator issue Monday, when I got it installed they said, after the test drive, that they could hear and feel it shaking and told me what it was after the hosted it up.
