i have a 1998 vette and i use the highest octane that i can find because the manual tells me to. a pcm means pulse code modulator. in english it's a computer that in this case is dedicated to the factories best idea of how the car should run and takes in a lot of variables. HOWEVER it is programed to have non variables in the equation (like octane) or it would not call for it. can it handle lower octane, probably but i choose to use what the manual calls for and not put another uncalled for variable for the pcm to handle. pat. by the way we are the same age.
