key is stuck in ignition while car is on. cant remove key. what is the problem?

i have to remove fuel pump fuse then disconnect battery to turn car off. still able to turn car on and drive. until the last time, power steering light went on, the transmission don't shift and the trunk button don't work anymore. the car still starts and everything else seems okay. the main thing is the key stuck. please help!

Under the column there is a plastic panel. Use a small screwdriver to pop off panel,and there should be a white plastic button. Press the button and this should release your key. I believe there is a recall for this GM#12089.
