could the wrong manifold gasket cause a timing belt to break?

I cannot think how the intake gasket would have any relation to the timing belt. I also do not think it could have come from factory with the wrong gasket. Sometimes the manufactor has a change in parts they use due to design improvements.

No..if he worked on it I'd ask to see old parts that were replaced. I would go else where for opinion.
