That thing you put air in to pump up your tires! Or to check the pressure in your tires! Or to check the pressure of your fuel pump, fuel system has one also. It is just a common name for any valve that has those functions. Found in different shapes and sizes. Now you will have to ask whom ever told you it needs one why.
