I just replaced the alternator in my 2001 Blazer LT and sitting idle at a stoplight for example, turning on the rear window defroster switch causes a massive electrical drain in the system. It drops from just over 14V to around 9V or so. This only happens at idle speed settings though.

'IF'that were the case.. It would be blowing fuses!! .. More likely alternator is failing and any other load that's put on it will show a discharge .. Turn on high beam headlights lights .. heater on high then step on brake pedal and watch voltage guage .. at idle..
I just replaced the alternator and it's not blowing fuses. Having this problem with a brand new alternator.....
The engine running voltage should not drop below 13 volts I don't care how much load it has on it!! .. Suspect defective alternator, buy the next one at NAPA.
