It has been driving fine but while I was driving today it just cut off and wouldn't crank again. All the lights work the battery is strong but I couldn't check the starter because it's in the intake manifold. I think it's the starter but I've never had a starter go out like that normally you get warning signs like not being able to crank it as easy.
What makes this problem better or worse?

Starter motor failure will not cause the engine to stall .. However a failing alternator will allow the battery to become discharged enough to cause this.. Even though the lights are working - recommend trying a jump start.
