Why would the engine light come on on the dash and there is no information comes

when the check engine light comes on,the computer in your car stores a code/codes.then you have to have someone hook up a code reader to your car to read the code.your car is not going to display that code on the panel anywhere.that car is not that smart.take it to Autozone.they will read the code for you and ask them to print it/them out for you,it's free!then post the code or codes here.
